Privacy Policy
Effective date: May 14, 2026 · Last updated: May 14, 2026
Mural Map USA ("we," "us," or "our") operates muralmapusa.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. We've kept it short and plain.
1. Information we collect
Analytics data
We use Cloudflare Analytics to understand how visitors use our site. Cloudflare collects aggregated, anonymized metrics — page views, general geographic region (country/region level), device type, and referring URL. We do not receive individual IP addresses or personally identifiable analytics data. Cloudflare's privacy policy governs how they process this data.
Mural submissions (text & location)
When you submit a mural, you provide location information and optionally an artist name. This content becomes part of the public directory. If you include your own name or contact information anywhere in a submission, that information may be stored as part of the submission record.
Photo submissions
Photo uploads are voluntary. When you submit a photo of a mural, the following applies:
- EXIF metadata is stripped. Digital photos often contain embedded metadata (EXIF data) including GPS coordinates, device model, camera settings, and timestamps. We remove all EXIF metadata from every photo before it is stored or displayed publicly. We do not retain, analyze, or share any EXIF data from submitted photos.
- Photos are not used to identify you. We do not run facial recognition, reverse image search, or any other processing intended to identify the person who took or submitted a photo.
- Photos are stored on Google Drive. Submitted photos are received via Google Forms and stored temporarily in a private Google Drive folder accessible only to Mural Map USA administrators. Photos are reviewed manually before being published to the public directory.
- Published photos are served via Cloudflare. After review, approved photos are transferred to Cloudflare's infrastructure for delivery. At that point the original Google Drive copy may be deleted.
- You grant us a license to display your photo. By submitting a photo, you represent that you have the right to submit it and grant Mural Map USA a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display, reproduce, and distribute the photo in connection with the mural directory and related promotional materials. You retain ownership of your photo.
- You may request removal. You may request that a photo you submitted be removed from the directory at any time. See Section 6 for how to make that request.
Do not submit photos that contain people's faces, license plates, or other personally identifiable information about third parties. If such a photo is submitted, we will either crop or reject it before publication.
Contact form & email
When you contact us through our contact form or by email, we receive your name, email address, and the content of your message. We use this only to respond to your inquiry.
Account information (future)
We do not currently have user accounts. When accounts are introduced, this policy will be updated to describe what account data is collected and how it is used.
2. How we use information
- To display and maintain the mural directory
- To understand aggregate traffic patterns and improve the site
- To respond to messages you send us
- To detect and prevent abuse or spam submissions
We do not sell your information. We do not use submitted photos to train AI or machine learning models. We do not share your information with third parties for advertising purposes.
3. Third-party services
Cloudflare — Our site is served through Cloudflare's network. Cloudflare may process request data (IP addresses, headers) as part of DDoS protection and CDN delivery. Published mural photos are stored and served via Cloudflare. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Google (Forms & Drive) — Mural submissions are collected via Google Forms. Submitted data, including uploaded photos, is stored in Google Drive during review. Google's privacy policy governs how Google processes this data. See Google's privacy policy. We do not use Google Analytics or any Google advertising products.
We do not use Facebook Pixel or other third-party tracking scripts.
4. Cookies
We do not set our own cookies for tracking or advertising. Cloudflare may set a security cookie (__cf_bm) to distinguish bots from real visitors. This cookie is functional and not used for advertising.
5. Data retention
Mural submissions (text and location) are retained indefinitely as part of the public directory. Published photos are retained indefinitely unless removal is requested. Unreviewed submission photos in Google Drive are deleted after review is complete (approved photos are transferred to Cloudflare; rejected photos are deleted). Contact form messages are retained only as long as needed to respond. Analytics data is retained by Cloudflare per their own retention policy.
6. Your rights
You may request that we:
- Remove a mural submission or photo you submitted
- Delete any personal information you sent us via email or contact form
- Correct inaccurate information about you
- Confirm what personal information (if any) we hold that is associated with your submission
To make a request, email [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days. California residents may also have additional rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, delete, and opt out of sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
7. Children's privacy
Mural Map USA is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has submitted personal information to us, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. Changes to this policy
